The future looks bright for Senate’s latest apprentice

If you’d asked Reece what he wanted to become when he was growing up, he would have told you he’d always wanted to be an Electrician – something he will now be able to achieve thanks to an apprenticeship with The Senate Group.

Reece’s path to becoming an apprentice hasn’t been as smooth as it could have been, after spending most of his childhood from the age of 12 within the City’s care system, he found himself having to fend for himself once the system’s support ended.

Thanks to the guidance and support from Thrive, a dedicated space in the heart of the city, for support workers and care-experienced young people to meet and The Senate Group, a Liverpool based mechanical and electrical company, Reece’s aspirations of becoming a fully qualified electrician are to be finally realised with a four-year electrical apprenticeship.

Reece – ApprenticeThe team at both Thrive and Senate have been fantastic in helping me to realise my dream – I can’t thank them enough. Sara and the Team at Thrive sat me down and talked me through everything and then introduced me to Kiera and the team at Senate who have gone above and beyond to help me overcome some of the barriers I was facing. This apprenticeship means more than just work to me.”

Part of The Senate Group’s ‘We’re giving back’ campaign which is aimed at helping the city’s charitable organisations, social enterprises and food banks flourish, Reece’s apprenticeship will see him working on many of Senate’s M&E projects in a number of sectors across the North West, including healthcare, education and housebuilding.

Phil Raynes – Electrical Contracts ManagerTo meet Reece and understand some of the barriers he has already had to overcome in his short life really hit home. However the determination and drive he possesses to achieve in life, is infectious. I’m proud to be able to offer him an apprenticeship and to welcome him to the Senate team”

Sara Lawton Founder of Thrive LCR comments “To see the journey Reece has been on over the last few months, from where he was when he came to us, to where he is today, is phenomenal and exactly what Thrive is all about. All too often these young people are forgotten about and left to fend for themselves after a lifetime of support. To be able to introduce Reece to Senate Group is a great reward and signifies to others not to give up. We are terribly proud to be part of Reece’s journey”

As part of the wider package of support, Senate are also helping Reece get on his feet by kitting him out with the everyday essentials needed to ensure this venture is every bit a success.
